WELCOME, I’m julie

I believe children heal best when they feel safe to be fully themselves.

(Not judged. Not rushed. Not talked down to.)

For over 4 decades, I’ve worked alongside children, young people, and families through some of life’s stickiest moments, be it as a foster parent, a family worker, or a counselor.

Every person has their own way of experiencing the world, and my job is to meet them right where they are. I use counseling, play therapy, and other creative approaches to help you express what you’re feeling in ways that feel natural to you.

By nurturing this sense of trust, safety and authentic connection, we are able to go deeper into your inner world, and discover what’s at the heart of both your struggles, and your healing.

Our Therapy Journey

with the parents (1 x 50min session)

Exploration Session

In this first session, I meet with the parents to better understand your child’s personality, interests, and needs. We’ll discuss social and family dynamics, and any key challenges that you’re facing. I will in turn tell you more about my approach, and answer any questions. If you’d like to move ahead with the rest of the therapy journey, we’ll also begin the contracting process.

For young people aged 18+, you’re welcome to attend this session yourself, or with someone from your support network.

Therapy Sessions

Over 6 sessions, the child / young person and I will embark on a therapeutic journey that incorporates counseling, play therapy, and other creative approaches. Above all, I will be helping them feel relaxed and themselves, whether that’s meeting in a place that feels comfortable for them, or exploring activities that they enjoy. We might play games, draw, imagine, laugh, or simply sit quietly together. What matters is that they feel seen, heard, and accepted - exactly as they are.

03

with the family (1 x 50min session)

Reflection Session

Before we meet, I will share a report with you that offers key insights and reflections from our therapeutic journey. It is important that we meet as a family so that your child has a voice in our conversation, and so that we can explore what change and support is needed within the family.

During our Reflection Session, we can also discuss whether you’ll like me to support you with Family Therapy or Mediation, and/or whether your child would like to continue therapy with me.

For young people aged 18+, you’re welcome to attend this session yourself, or with someone from your support network.

my approach

Flexible

Like learning, healing works best when we feel relaxed. I’m happy to meet you wherever feels comfortable, whether that’s at home, in a cafe, or on a walk. For those that live further away, we can meet online - from the comfort of your own home.

Relational

I don’t believe in therapy that’s hierarchical, rushed, or over-medicated. I believe in coming together as fellow humans, complete with our quirks, humour and vulnerabilities, and taking the time and space to build trust, safety, and authentic connection.

Creative

I don’t follow a rule-book; I follow your child’s lead. Play is often a child’s natural form of self-expression, and by being creative and present, out-of-the-box inspiration will often make its ways into our session to give us the breakthough we need.
